Deuteronomy

This book was written to the second generation who were about to enter the Promised Land. Before he died, Moses repeated some of the laws and reminded them of their journey with God in the last forty years and pleaded with them to keep the covenant. However, he told the story in a sort of haphazard way that is not as organized as Leviticus. Here, he repeats laws and groups unrelated laws together. The narrative makes sense if you see it as a part of the coordinated story of a prophecy.

In Deuteronomy, Moses outlines the First Coming of the Messiah from Mount Zion in heaven to tabernacle with men, until He rescues the final generation at the Second Coming.

There are many words used to describe the different types of instructions given in the Torah. They have not always been used consistently by translators. Ezekiel gives us a clue as to their purpose.
The Spirit of The Torah. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them. (Ezekiel 36: 26-27)

• Law (Teaching, Instruction) [Torah]. All the teachings and instructions given by Moses.
• Commandments (The Moral Code of Behavior) [Mitsvâh]. The list of instructions.
  » Ten Commandments. The moral law summarized in ten categories.
• Testimony (Witness) [Eduwth, Edah, Tauwdah]. The written words on the two tables of the Ten Commandments. The two tables of stone are the two witnesses to what was agreed upon at Mount Sinai.
• Judgments (The Decisions to Make) [Mishpât]. The judgments show how to apply the laws in a particular situation. Generally, God not only told the Jews the right thing to do, but within the context of the sequence of events that are being fulfilled in the laws, He emphasizes the particular laws that they should not break.
  For example, one reading done during the Passover is to instruct the people not to take bribes or hire false witnesses or follow the crowd in perverting justice. These laws have nothing to do with the rituals of Passover, but they had everything to do with the crimes that would be committed during the important Passover when the Messiah would die as the Lamb of God. God wanted them to have no part in this sin.
  So every Passover He warned them for over 1500 years.
• Statutes (The Way to Walk) [Chôq and Chûqqâh]. Practices, rules.
  The statutes showed the Messiah and the people what to do and expect. They are a prophetic guide.
  » Ordinances (Chûqqâh). Festival and ritual laws are a special set of statutes.
• Blessings and Curses. These are the consequences of continued obedience or disobedience.

• Leaving The Mountain Of God (Chapter 1). The journey continues when Israel leaves Mount Sinai (Horeb) after receiving instructions from God. Jesus began His journey to earth when He left Mount Zion in heaven and came to earth as a baby.
  Incarnation. Therefore, when He comes into the world He says, "Sacrifice and offering You have not desired, but a body You have prepared for Me." (Hebrews 10: 5)
  The first three chapters are a summary of His mission.
  • Appointed Leaders (Disciples). Both Moses and Jesus appointed leaders from the 12 tribes.
    Heads of Households. So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and experienced men, and appointed them heads over you ... (Deuteronomy 1: 15)
    Spies. The thing pleased me and I took twelve of your men, one man from each tribe. (Deuteronomy 1: 23)
    The twelve disciples were the leaders who walked through the land and who later became leaders of the young church.
  • Appointed Judges. Moses appointed judges to handle disputes. Jesus appointed only Himself as judge, because justice was being perverted by unconverted humans.
  • Trials in the Wilderness. Before He began his final three years of ministry, Jesus went into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan for 40 days (Matthew 4). As a nation, Israel was tested for 40 years.
    The Testing of Israel. Then we set out from Horeb and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw on the way to the hill country of the Amorites ... (Deuteronomy 1: 19)
    The Testing of Jesus. Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. (Matthew 4: 1-2)
• The Lands In The Wilderness (Chapter 2).

  • Edom (The Land Ruled By The House of Herod). Herod the Great was an Edomite who converted to Judaism. So the Romans and Edomites were ruling Israel when Jesus was born.
    » Circling The Mountain. So Jesus was literally walking around in their territory for 30 years then for 3.5 years He and the disciples went throughout Israel until it was time for Him to turn north, where wrath would be poured out on Him.
    Preaching to Israel. Then we turned and set out for the wilderness by way of the Red Sea as the Lord spoke to me, and circled Mount Seir for many days. And the Lord spoke to me saying, "You have circled this mountain long enough. Now turn north". (Deuteronomy 2: 3)
  • Moab (The Traitor). In Moab was the prophet Baalam who was a traitor. He was paid to curse Israel. The priests bribed Judas to betray Jesus. It was in the land of Moab where they looked on the bronze serpent which cured them and the elders dug wells. Both of these prophecy about Jesus on the cross becoming sin for us and then pouring blood and water out of His side (Numbers 21).
  • Ammon. They journeyed opposite Ammon. This might be the Gentiles. They were not to work with the Gentiles until they had finished the final three and a half years of the covenant working with the Jews.
  • Amorites. They defeated the Amorites and settled in their land.
    Defeat the Wicked. Arise, set out, and pass through the valley of Arnon. Look! I have given Sihon the Amorite, the king of Heshbon, and his land into your hand; begin to take possession and contend with him in battle. (Deuteronomy 1: 19)
  • Amalekites. Like the Amalekites, Satan waited for those who were lingering behind. They attacked the weak ones. He attacked Christ in the desert when He was severely weakened from hunger.
    Vengeance and Destruction. Then the Lord said to Moses, "Write this in a book as a memorial and recite it to Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven."
    Moses built an altar and named it "The Lord is my banner." and he said, "The Lord has sworn; the Lord will have war against Amalek from generation to generation." (Exodus 17: 14-16)
    So Amalek has become a symbol of Satan and the wicked. In this era the Romans did the work of Satan and their decline shows that God executed vengeance on Rome for hundreds of years according to the terms specified in the law. In fact, this war against Rome will continue until the end of time.
  If you have studied the prophecy of the twelve tribes you will recognize the personalities of the nations in these directions that still hold true in this case.
  • Ammon (East). Friends of God who will praise the Lord. Ammon was the child of the second daughter of Lot. Just like the second generation of Israel, the second generation of the global Israel will accept God. Ammon had destroyed the giants with the assistance of God.
    Private Property. When you come opposite the sons of Ammon, do not harass them nor provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the sons of Ammon as a possession, because I have given it to the sons of Lot as a possession. (Deuteronomy 2: 19)
  • Edom and Moab (South). Betrayal by the people of God. Moab was the sons of the first daughter. The first generation always seems to fall into rebellion.
  • Amorite (North). The enemies of God who will be destroyed.
  • Canaan - The Promised Land (West). It was beyond the Jordan.
• Two And A Half Tribes Take Possession From The Amorites (Chapter 3). This is the scope of the victory of the church which was Jewish. Like the tribes in the east, the Jews (Judah) were also made up of two and a half tribes - Judah, Benjamin and some Levites. The disciples went out to minister to the Jews for three and a half years after the death of Christ. They rejected the Messiah and were destroyed in two revolts between 66 AD and 136 AD. The Gentile church eventually took possession. At the end of time, we will take possession of the remaining tribes after we cross the Jordan or after the Latter Rain.

The Deliverer Of Israel Learns The Will Of God
He must avoid the mistakes of the children of Israel on the Exodus. Moses' pleas to the second generation instruct Him what to do. He must obey the statutes and judgments and the Ten Commandments and He must love God completely.
Keeping the Covenant. Then I said, "Behold I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of Me) to do your will, O God."
Having an Obedient Heart. This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days says the Lord. I will put My laws upon their heart, and on their mind I will write them." (Hebrews 10: 7, 15)

• Statutes And Judgments (Chapter 4). He must read these instructions from Moses which will guide His future and show Him how to respond. It gave Him wisdom.
  A Guide Book. See I have taught you statutes and judgments just as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should do this in the land where you are entering to possess it.
  Wisdom. So keep and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes and say, "Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people". (Deuteronomy 4: 5-6)
  • Idolatry. In order to prevent any idolatry, God made sure that they could not see His form.
    The Invisible God. Then the Lord spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of the words, but you saw no form - only a voice. So watch yourself carefully, since you did not see any form on the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire. so that you do not act corruptly and make a graven image for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female. (Deuteronomy 4: 12, 15-16)
    Jesus came in the form of man to show them the Father. God finally allowed them to see His form and they heard Him speak and teach.
    Jesus was the only image of God in human form that could be worshipped (2 Corinthians 4: 4 and Colossians 1: 15). When Israel saw God on top of Mount Calvary in this form they rejected Him. He was in the form of an Asherah and a sacred pillar and a snake on a stick lifted up in the middle of the fires of Satan. So, Israel technically did the right thing at the cross, they rejected the image of God that Satan had created for them.
  • A Substitute. Like Moses, Jesus bore the punishment for their rebellion and He died without seeing the Promised Land on earth. However, like Moses, He was resurrected to see the Promised Land in heaven.
    Our Sin Bearer. Now the Lord was angry with me on your account, and swore that I would not cross the Jordan, and that I would not enter the good land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.
    Death of The Deliverer. For I will die in this land, I shall not cross the Jordan,
    Israel Takes Possession. but you shall cross and take possession of the good land. (Deuteronomy 4: 21-22)
    Last Day Jews. This last statement contains a prophecy for the last day Jews. They will cross the Jordan and possess the land. After the Latter Rain, they will conquer the nations for God.
  • Punishment. Both Jesus and the Jews suffered this pattern of punishment specified by the curses.
    Witnesses. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that you will surely perish quickly from the land where you are going over the Jordan to possess it. You shall not live long on it, but will be utterly destroyed. The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the Lord drives you. There you will serve gods, the work of man's hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell. (Deuteronomy 4: 26-28)
    • Unfriendly Witnesses. The priests and the kings condemned Him in a false trial. The priests are the representatives to heaven. The kings are the rulers on earth. God was also there on that day to see the spectacle and God turned His back.
    • Perish Quickly. He died from crucifixion, faster than normally occurs.
    • Scattered. The disciples scattered and abandoned Him.
    • Serving the Work of Man's Hand. Jesus had to carry a wooden cross.
    Within 40 years and then 100 years the Jews were killed off by the millions and scattered. They became slaves of the Romans.
  • Repentance. They will repent when they recognize the curses.
    God Remembers the Covenant. But from there you will seek the Lord your God; and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the Lord your God and listen to His voice. For the Lord your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you nor destroy you nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them. (Deuteronomy 4: 29-31)
    Last Day Jews. They will return to God after great tribulation. Since the "latter days" began after 1798, this must be the Nazi holocaust.
  • The Trial by Fire. The ordeal at the crucifixion has been compared to a trial by fire because He became the whole burnt offering in this period.
    From the Cross. Has any people heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as you have heard it, and survived? (Deuteronomy 4: 33)
    Out of the trials came His voice to the people, offering forgiveness and comfort. He caused them to survive by submitting to the fiery trials.
  • Deliverance from Rome and From Sin. He delivered them from slavery to sin while they were slaves of Rome.
    Out of Rome. Or has a God tried to take for himself a nation from within another nation by trials, by signs and wonders and by war and by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm and by great terrors, as the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? (Deuteronomy 4: 34)
    While under Roman occupation, He delivered us with these signs.
    • Trials. This is His life and temptation in the wilderness and the unjust trials.
    • Signs and Wonders. This is the darkness and earthquake and the miracles He did in Israel.
    • War. 500 Roman soldiers came to arrest Him with the priests and a mob. He later threw Satan out of heaven in a war (Revelation 12: 7-10).
    • Mighty Hand and Outstretched Arm. His arms were nailed and stretched out on the cross.
    • Great Terrors. In the supernatural darkness He thought that even God had forsaken Him.
  • The People Who Killed The God-Man. The Man who was killed was the Messiah. This sequence of verses show that He set up a system to absolve them of this guilt of unintentional murder. For He Himself testifies that they were unaware of their deeds.
    » Prays for Forgiveness. Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. (Luke 23: 34)
    The Man Slayer. Then Moses set apart three cities across the Jordan to the east that a manslayer might flee there, who unintentionally slew his neighbor without having enmity toward him in time past; and by fleeing to one of these cities he might live. (Deuteronomy 4: 41-42)
    » Cities of Refuge. The people did not have enmity towards Him in the past. In fact it was only within the last 24 hours that the people turned against Him on the testimony of false witnesses and the judgment of the high priest. So according to these rules, three cities of refuge were set up for them.
    Before they regained their land in 1948, Jews returned from many countries around the world. They became a nation again after 2000 years, and resettled from three major regions.
    • Sephardim. The Spanish Jews.
    • Ashkenaz. The European Jews.
    • Eastern Europe (Pale of Settlement). The Russian and East European Jews were invited to resettle in this area before the nations turned against them.
    If we assume that the land across the Jordan represents the spiritual nation of Israel in the last days, then we will also have three cities of refuge to which we can flee when the final persecution comes.
• Receiving The Ten Commandments (Chapter 5). He must have this law written internally in His heart.
  Old Covenant. Sacrifice and meal offering You have not desired. My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required. Then I said, "Behold I come. In the scroll of the book it is written of me".
  New Covenant. I delight to do Your will, O my God. Your law is written in my heart. (Psalm 40: 6-8)
  • The Intercessor. Afraid of God, Israel requests someone who will stand between them and God.
    Israel Asks For An Intercessor. Go near and hear all that the Lord our God says; then speak to us all that the Lord our God speaks to you, and we will hear and do it. (Deuteronomy 5: 27)
  • God Agrees to Use An Intercessor.
    A Good Plan. The Lord heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me, and the Lord said to me, "I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken." (Deuteronomy 5: 28)
  • The Perfect Heart. Here God is promising that they would have a soft heart that was obedient.
    A Heart of Flesh. Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me and keep all my commandments always, that it may be well with them and their sons forever! (Deuteronomy 5: 29)
  • The Heart of the Intercessor. God writes the commandments on His heart by speaking to Him.
    The Intercessor is Near to God. But as for you, stand here by Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments and the statutes and the judgments which you shall teach them, that they may observe them in the land which I give them to possess. (Deuteronomy 5: 31)
    God gave the intecessor His own Great Commission. Teach them about Me and bring them near to Me.
  Jesus came to earth and for three and a half years He taught them the commandments and He showed them a loving, approachable God that should not make them afraid.
• The SHEMA (Chapter 6). The next instructions from Moses, called the SHEMA, are memorized by all Jews and repeated two times every day in prayer. SHEMA means "hear". Jesus' ears were opened to the voice of God.
  Jesus spent 30 years learning the Torah, then He went out to be tested by Satan before He completed His exodus. The three responses to the three tests by Satan are found in Deuteronomy.
  • Hunger. Satan attacked when Jesus was weak from hunger and thirst. He tried to make Him turn stone into bread. Jesus spoke of a hunger that can only be satisfied by God.
    Hunger for God. He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 8: 3)
    My Word is Food. But He answered and said, "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God." (Matthew 4: 4)
  • Testing the Lord. When they were thirsty for only three days Israel quarreled with God and tested Him, questioning whether or not He was with them (Exodus 17). So when Jesus was both hungry and thirsty for forty days, Satan tempted Him to test God. Jesus was prepared for the test. He would have faith.
    Trust. You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested Him as Massah. (Deuteronomy 6: 16)
    Trust God. Jesus said to him, "On the other hand it is written, you shall not put the Lord your God to the test." (Matthew 4: 7)
  • Worshipping A False God. Finally Satan begged for worship. Moses' instructions told Him not to follow other gods, but to cling only to YHWH.
    No Other Gods. You shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name. You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the people who surround you. (Deuteronomy 6: 13-14)
    Cling to YHWH. You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name. (Deuteronomy 10: 20)
    God Only. Then Jesus said to him, "Go Satan! For it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only." (Matthew 4: 10)
  So Jesus emerged from His childhood in which He learned the will of God by reading the Torah. Just as Joseph was given two dreams that were a roadmap to His life, Jesus was given the Torah which prophesied about His life (John 5: 39, 46). He spent thirty years studying this map. So armed with the Ten Commandments in His heart, with the SHEMA and the prophecies of Moses He went into the wilderness to be tested, then He introduced Himself to the nation of Israel.
  One God. Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! (Deuteronomy 6: 4)
  The SHEMA was actually telling them that the Lord was among them as one of them. At this point He was not broken. His divinity and humanity were one. By the crucifixion they would be split apart because they did not love Him as the SHEMA commanded.

The Deliverer Of Israel Possesses The Land (The Final 3.5 Years)
By this point Jesus knows what will happen to Him, so now He is ready to take possession of the land and fulfill all that was written about Him. He begins His three year journey through Israel, calling twelve disciples as the statutes instructed Him to do.

• Clearing The Land (Chapter 7).
  Before we take possession of the land we have to clear out our enemies and the nations who are condemned so that we are not infected with their corruption.
  • Seven Nations. There are seven nations standing in the way of our possession of our inheritance. Globally there is also a seven headed beast who must be vanquished before Jesus comes.
    Seven Enemies. When the Lord you God brings you into the land where you are entering to possess it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you. (Deuteronomy 7: 1)
    Israel has seven heathen nations to depose and Christ must have also had seven major enemies. We know that House of Herod beginning with Herod the Great who tried to kill Him at His birth was an enemy. The other enemies are probably Rome, Pilate, the Sanhedrin, Scribes and Pharisees, Judas, the high priests Annanias and Caiaphas. In prophecy, the world has seven major enemies to conquer.
    Conquered Slowly. The Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little; you will not be able to put an end to them quickly; for the wild beasts will grow too numerous for you. (Deuteronomy 7: 22)
    Judas hung himself the night of the crucifixion. Pilate committed suicide. Herod Agrippa was killed by God. The house of Herod was removed by the Romans. The priesthood was destroyed in 70 AD and the house of Annanias was killed. Rome fell to the Barbarians 500 years later.
    » Confusion. This promise reminds us of the fate of Babylon, which is utter confusion.
    Confusion and Destruction. But the Lord your God will deliver them before you, and will throw them into great confusion until they are destroyed. (Deuteronomy 7: 23)
    » Kings. The house of Herod was exiled by 70 AD and the Roman caesars fell.
    Kings Fall. He will deliver their kings into your hand so that you will make their name perish from under heaven, no man will be able to stand before you until you have destroyed them. (Deuteronomy 7: 24)
    » The Wild Beasts. The promise also reminds us that even if we conquer our powerful enemies that the wild beasts could become a threat. In the global picture of this conquest, the seven nations are also depicted as wild beasts or as seven heads of the great serpent, Satan.
  • No Marriage. He was to remain single so that He would not corrupt the holy seed.
    Single. Furthermore, you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons. (Deuteronomy 7: 3)
  • Cleansing the Temple. Jesus began His ministry by cleansing the temple.
    Tearing Down the Altars and Idols. But thus you shall do to them: you shall tear down their altars, and smash their sacred pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire. The graven images of their gods you are to burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, or you will be snared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 7: 5, 25)
    Throwing Out the Money Changers. The Passover of the Jews was near and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables; and to those who were selling the doves He said, "Take these things away; stop making My Father's house a place of business." (John 2: 13-16)
  • One Thousand Generations of Israel. In Matthew 1: 17 we learn that there is an average of 14 generations over 500 years. So there is probably at most 200 generations in 6000 years. So God is technically saying that He will be faithful forever if every generation is faithful. Even when they are unfaithful, He will keep covenant for 1000 generations of the last faithful man.
    Since Abraham was faithful, God will keep the covenant with Abraham to his one thousandth generation, even if all the children after him have been unfaithful.
    A Faithful God Forever. Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments. (Deuteronomy 7: 9)
  
  
• The Last Faithful Man (Chapter 8).
  This chapter is like a final admonition to the intercessor. He will have hardships, but He must remember to cling to God and He will inherit the good land because His tests will only help Him to succeed.
  Jesus. Although He was a Son. He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. (Hebrews 5: 8)
  • Testing. His faithfulness will be tested.
    God is Faithful. You shall remember all the way which the Lord your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. (Deuteronomy 8: 2)
  • Submission and Humility. The testing must not be resented, so He must learn to submit to God. In His heart, Jesus learned that God would never abandon Him no matter what the outer circumstances look like.
    Search Your Heart. Thus you are to know in your heart that the Lord your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son. (Deuteronomy 8: 5)
  • The Precious Word of God. Through testing He will learn that God provides what is most important.
    God Provides. He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 8: 3)
  • Victory. In the end, the faithful God will give what He has promised.
    A Good Land. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey. (Deuteronomy 8: 7-8)
    • Water. The Holy Spirit.
    • Valleys and Hills. Mount Zion.
    • Wheat and Barley. The resurrected dead and the converts at Pentecost.
    • Vines. The righteous nations attached to Him.
    • Fig Trees. Israel.
    • Pomegranates. Priests.
    • Olive Oil. The Holy Spirit anoints the priests.
    • Honey. Honey is the only food that will not spoil. Ir represents blessings and eternal life.
  The promise is that if He is the only faithful Jew, then God will keep the covenant with Him and His descendants.
  
• The Rebellious People (Chapter 9).
  The land is also full of a stubborn and rebellious people with whom God has made a perpetual covenant.
  • Jesus Crosses Over. Jesus has gone ahead of us in the exodus to guarantee our victory.
    The First of Many. Know therefore today that it is the Lord your God who is crossing over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and He will subdue them before you, so that you may drive them out and destroy them quickly, just as the Lord has spoken to you. (Deuteronomy 9: 3)
  • The Day of The Covenant. Israel was rebelling against God on the very day that the covenant was being given.
    The Wrath of God. Even at Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, and the Lord was so angry with you that He would have destroyed you. (Deuteronomy 9: 8)
    On the day Jesus Christ fulfilled the covenant, Israel was in rebellion against God, stoning Him to death. The wrath of God was kindled, but it fell on Jesus.
  • The First Forty Days and Nights. At the beginning of His ministry Jesus spent forty days and nights in the wilderness where He fasted.
    The First Covenant. When I went up to the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord has made with you, then I remained on the mountain forty days and nights; I ate neither bread nor drank water. (Deuteronomy 9: 9)
    » The First Assembly. God spoke to them and told them the commandments.
    The Hand Written Covenant. The Lord gave me the two tablets of stone written by the finger of God, and on them were all the words which the Lord had spoken with you at the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. (Deuteronomy 9: 10)
  • The Intercessor. God threatened to destroy them and start a new nation with Moses. However, Moses interceded for the people and stopped the wrath of God.
    Blot out Israel. Let Me alone that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven;
    A New Nation. and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they. (Deuteronomy 9: 14)
    In contrast, Jesus also interceded for the people to obtain their pardon. However, Jesus became Israel out of whom would be born a righteous Israel. So in Jesus, God did not blot out the name of Israel, and He also produced a righteous nation.
  • A Second Forty Days and Nights. Jesus was seen on earth for forty days after the resurrection (Acts 1:3).
    Another Forty Days. I fell down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you had committed in doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord to provoke Him to anger... (Deuteronomy 9: 17)
    When He fell down before the Lord, it was the point where He was lying in the grave and it could have also begun when He fell with the cross. He will not eat again between the Passover to the Second Coming.
    Fasting. But I say unto you I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until the day I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom. (Matthew 26: 29)
    So the time between the Passover and the Second Coming is seen as forty periods of time.
  • The Broken Man. The first covenant was broken before their eyes when they rejected the Messenger of the Covenant. Lifted up on the cross was a broken Man, He was the covenant. He had guaranteed the covenant with His life. He had written the covenant on His heart.
    The Broken Covenant. ... I took hold of the two tablets and threw them from my hands and smashed them before your eyes. (Deuteronomy 9: 17)
  • The Unfaithful High Priest. Aaron led the people to sin just as Caiaphas and Annanias led Israel to sin.
    The High Priest Leads Israel Astray. The Lord was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him; so I also prayed for Aaron at that time. (Deuteronomy 9: 20)
    While He was on the cross, Jesus prayed for all the people.
  
  
• Writing The Ten Commandments Again (Chapter 10).
  The first set of Commandments, the first covenant, has been shattered. That covenant was cut out of stone by God and written on stone by God. Jesus Christ is the Stone and the Rock which was shattered for the covenant.
  • The New Covenant. For the second covenant we provide the material on which God will write the covenant and we take measures to keep it secure and we transport it from place to place. Ideally, the material that we provide will be our hearts and minds and the Holy Spirit will write the law on them.
    Our Own Tables of Stone. At that time the Lord said to me, "Cut out for yourself two tablets of stone like the former ones, and come up to Me on the mountain, and make an ark of wood for yourself.
    God Writes the Covenant. I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered, and you shall put them in the ark". (Deuteronomy 10: 1-2)
    So, for the second covenant, God also writes the same Ten Commandments.
    God Writes the Ten Commandments. He wrote on the tablets, like the former writing, the Ten Commandments which the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly and the Lord gave them to me. (Deuteronomy 10: 4)
  • The High Priest. The high priest dies after the new covenant is written.
    Aaron Dies. ... There Aaron died and there he was buried and Eleazar his son ministered as priest in his place. (Deuteronomy 10: 6)
    A tribe of priests and a nation of priests are those who carry the covenant with them.
    A Tribe of Priests. At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to serve Him and to bless His name until this day. (Deuteronomy 10: 8)
  • The High Priest is Raised Up. Jesus went to possess the land after the resurrection.
    Resurrection. Then the Lord said to me, "Arise, proceed on your journey ahead of the people, that they may go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give them." (Deuteronomy 10: 11)
  • The New Circumcision. The new covenant has a new circumcision.
    A New Heart. So circumcise your heart and stiffen your neck no longer. (Deuteronomy 10: 16)
    The new covenant does not show partiality.
    A Portion For the Outcasts. For the Lord your God is a God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe. He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving Him food and clothing. (Deuteronomy 10: 17-18)

The Deliverer Of Israel Possesses The Land (The Final Week)
Jesus completes His ministry in Israel. He begins by coming to Jerusalem on a donkey.

• SHEMA (Chapter 11). The third statement of the SHEMA is addressed to people who are crossing over into the Promised Land. God guarantees that they will have rain and that they will defeat any great nations.
  Eye Witnesses. But your own eyes have seen the great work of the Lord which He did (Deuteronomy 11: 7)
  The people saw all the miracles that Jesus did as proof that God was with Him.
  The Holy Spirit Rains From Heaven. But the land into which you are about to cross to possess it a land of hills and valleys, drinks water from the rain of heaven. (Deuteronomy 11: 11)
  The land is a place where the Holy Spirit will be poured out on them in the former and latter rains.
• The High Priest Comes To Jerusalem (Chapter 12). The Jews count 613 Mitzvot (commandments) in the Torah. Some of these are repeated in different books and in the same books. They claim that these repetitions are a different commandment somehow. In this chapter we will see two examples that validate their claims.
  • Pure Religion. Jesus vigorously defended the reputation of God. He ended His ministry the same way He began, by cleansing the temple.
    Tear Down Idols. You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall dispossess serve their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. You shall tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and burn their Asherim with fire, and you shall cut down the engraved images of their gods and obliterate their name from that place. (Deuteronomy 12: 2)
    This request is repeated because He drove away the money changers at the beginning of His ministry and He does it again in His final week.
    Drive Away The Money Changers Again. And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. And He said to them, "It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer; but you are making it a den of thieves." (Matthew 21: 12-13)
  • Blood Like Water. Twice in this chapter and three times in this book we are told to pour the blood on the ground "like water".
    . Only you shall not eat the blood; you are to pour it out on the ground like water. (Deuteronomy 11: 16)
    • Blood and Sweat (Gethsemane). Blood like sweat poured out on the ground when He prayed. This offering was the one acceptable to God. It is significant that it was made "outside the gates" because the unclean and the clean may eat it. Therefore, the offering was truly made for all types of sinners. This offering was also made in the south east to represent splashing the blood on the south east corner.
    • Blood and Sweat and Tears (Fortress Antonia). He was beaten here after the trial. This was located within the gates, north of temple.
    • Blood and Sweat (Road to Golgotha). He was beaten before the heavy yoke of the cross was placed on Him to begin His death march to Calvary. On the way blood and sweat must have poured out on the ground, staining the streets of Jerusalem as the blood stained the sides of the altar. However, He fainted on the road because the distance was too far for His mangled body.
      Eat Within Your Gates. If the place which the Lord your God chooses to set His name is too far from you, then you may slaughter of your herd and flock which the Lord has given you as I have commanded you; an you may eat within your gates, whatever you desire. Just as a gazelle or a deer is eaten, so you will eat it; the unclean and the clean alike may eat of it. You shall not eat it; you shall pour it out on the ground like water. (Deuteronomy 11: 21-22, 24)
      Calvary was outside the north gates, but He fell down within the gates of the city before the clean and unclean (Jews and Romans).
    • Blood and Water (Calvary). Blood and water poured out of His side.
    • Blood and Tears (Calvary). The crown of thorns caused blood to run down His face, crying tears of pain and sorrow. These last two offerings were made outside the gate in the north of the altar, specifically in the north west corner of the altar.
    All of these offerings were made in Jerusalem on the mountain that God chose to offer His son as a sacrifice. The Jews and Gentile Romans all symbolically ate Him as they insulted, mocked and spit on Him.
• Beware Of Seducers (Chapter 13). In the final week of the covenant God warns us to beware of seducers. This warning was fulfilled on two levels. Judas, the priests and the people seduced the people into sin and the people followed the crowd. Then Jesus was falsely accused of being a seducer and was killed according to this law.
  • False Prophet.
    The Sign of the Prophet. If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder comes through, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, "Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them". you should not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams ...
    but the prophet or the dreamer of dreams shall be put to death because he counseled rebellion against the Lord your God ... (Deuteronomy 13: 1-3, 5)
    » Blasphemy. Jesus went throughout the country showing signs and wonders. He not only claimed to be the Son of God, He claimed to be God. This was a God they did not know and they accused Him of blasphemy and put Him to death.
    » Betrayed With A Kiss. Judas used a kiss as a sign to betray Jesus and He died that night for his rebellion.
  • Family and Friends. They tried to divert Him from His mission because they did not believe Him or because they had other political agendas. They refused to accept that He would die.
    A False Friend. If your brother, your mother's son, or your son or daughter, or the wife you cherish, or your friend who is as your own soul, entice you secretly saying, "Let us go and serve other gods ...
    But you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of the people. (Deuteronomy 13: 6, 9)
    » The First Hand. Judas was the first to put his hand against Jesus. In the morning the people agreed and wanted Him put to death.
    » The New God. In the end, Israel accused Him of being a prophet who enticed them to follow Him as God. He was their God who existed before Abraham, but they did not know Him and were offended by His claims.
  • The Wicked City. Do not follow the crowd to do what is popular.
    Worthless Men. If you hear in one of your cities, which the Lord your God is giving you to live in, anyone saying that some worthless men have gone out from among you and have seduced the inhabitants of their city ... You shall surely strike the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying it and all that is in it and its cattle with the edge of the sword. Then you shall gather of its booty in the middle of its open square and burn the city and its booty with fire as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God; and it shall be a ruin forever, it shall never be rebuilt. (Deuteronomy 13: 12-14, 15-18)
    » Blasphemy. The disciples were the worthless men who were the walls of the city of God on earth. They were torn down and their Temple (Messiah) was torn down and burned as an offering.
    » Jerusalem. The city was burned in 70 AD for not following the Lord but allying with the Romans.
    » Babylon the Great. At the end of time this city shall be destroyed for leading the world into idolatry to serve Satan.
• Clean And Unclean Animals (Chapter 14). Every type of clean and unclean creature buzzed around Jerusalem on this special Passover.
  • Clean and Unclean Animals. Jesus was the only representative from a righteous government. He had four split hooves from the nails in His hands and feet. He could also chew the cud by bringing up the dead.
    All the other evil governments, principalities and powers were there. The two thieves on the cross were the pigs who had their hooves pierced but could not come out of the grave by themselves. Those who were raised from the dead at His death did not die with split hooves. They are unclean because that had recently been with the dead and they were sinful humans.
  • Clean and Unclean Fish. God hopes to catch men like fish in the great turbulent sea of the wicked. There were good and bad people at the crucifixion. The good people will have both scales and fins. They will have the armor of God that can never be removed and they will have fins to steer and guide them.
  • Clean and Unclean Birds. Good and evil angels were at the crucifixion.
  • Unclean Reptiles. Satan is the reptile at the crucifixion, urging the people to sin.
  • Dead Things. Jesus could not commit suicide or "die of himself". After the priests had finished roasting him to death and eating Him, they gave what was remaining of Him to the Gentiles who proceeded to gather around His carcass like vultures and eat Him.
    The Feast of God. You shall not eat anything which dies of itself. You may give it to the alien who is in your town, so that He may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner, for you are a holy people to the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 14: 21)
    » Dying Voluntarily in Gethsemane. However, when He shed blood in Gethsemane, He was giving His life and making the substitution for our death. So it could be said that He voluntarily "died" when He gave up His life. So He "died of Himself" and therefore they were obligated to give Him to the alien who lived in their town. However, they did not sell Him to a foreigner. They sold Him to the high priest who gave him to the aliens (Romans).
  • Mother's Milk. Jesus became the sin offering after He weaned Himself from His mother and gave her to John.
  • Grain Tithe. Jesus was the fruit tithe which was offered in the third year. But those who were resurrected at His death were the tithe of grain for the year.
  • Exchange Offering For Money. Judas did this when he accepted a bribe to betray Jesus.
    Too Far. If the distance is so great for you that you are not able to bring the tithe, since the place where the Lord your God chooses to set His name is too far away from you when the Lord your God blesses you,
    Money in the Hand. then you shall exchange it for money, and bind the money in your hand and go to the place where the Lord your God chooses. (Deuteronomy 14: 24-25)
    • Place Too Far. The distance was not too far for Judas, but it was too far for Christ. He fainted on the road to the cross. So He took the victory won in Gethsemane and exchanged His blood for money.
    • Spend Money on Your Heart's Desire. He used the money to buy back His heart's desire from Satan. He paid our ransom from Satan with blood money. He desired to free those kidnapped into slavery.
      The Purchase. You may spend the money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen, or sheep or wine, or strong drink, or whatever your heart desires; and there you shall eat in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice, you and your household. (Deuteronomy 14: 26)
      He could only make the purchase at Calvary.
      • Oxen. He was the ox from heaven who carried the yoke of sin to Calvary.
      • Sheep. He was the Lamb of God.
      • Wine. The blood was the wine.
      • Strong Drink. He was given vinegar on the cross.
      • Eat in The Presence of The Lord. It was both Passover and the cannibalism of Jesus.
      • Household Rejoices. Heaven rejoiced because of the victory. Israel and her priests rejoiced because they thought that they had gotten rid of a potential political trouble maker. It would take two more days before the disciples rejoiced, but all earth can rejoice because peace was declared between earth and heaven and the slaves were coming home.
  • The Third Year Tithe. At the end of every third year you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in that year, and shall deposit it in your town. (Deuteronomy 14: 28)
    After three years of ministry He brought the tithe to Jerusalem and deposited Himself on the floor of the Sanhedrin at the "Tent of Meeting".
• The Sabbath Year And Debt Remission (Chapter 15). Since the Jews did not faithfully keep the Jubilee or the yearly Sabbaths, we are not certain when they occurred. Symbolically, the victory won on Calvary indicated that this must have been a Sabbatical year, if not a jubilee also.
  The Sin Debt is Paid. At the end of every seven years you shall grant a remission of debt. This is the manner of remission: every creditor shall release what he is loaned to his neighbor; he shall not exact it of his neighbor and his brother; because the Lord's remission has been proclaimed. From a foreigner you may exact it, but your hand shall release whatever of yours is with your brother. (Deuteronomy 15: 1-3)
  It may seem like this debt was for the Jews only, but Christ made the two groups into one so that the Jews and Gentiles were spiritually brothers in Christ.
  • Brother's Debt. The sins of the Jews were paid.
  • Neighbor's Debt. The sins of the Gentiles were paid.
  • Free All Slaves. All the children of Adam and Eve who sold into slavery since Eden were freed.
    Free Brother. If your kinsman, a Hebrew man or woman is sold to you, then he shall serve you six years, but in the seventh year you shall set him free. (Deuteronomy 15: 12)
  • Consecrate Firstborn. Every firstborn male must be consecrated to God. Jesus was the firstborn son of Mary, and the only begotten son of God. He was given to God as the offering.
    • Rested. It must not be worked or shaved (Deuteronomy 15: 19). When they tied the cross to His back and forced Him on a death march to Calvary until He fainted under the load, they actually disobeyed this commandment. This is another piece of evidence that proves that it was the blood poured out in Gethsemane that atoned for our sin, but the events on Calvary was for another purpose because it failed several tests for a proper offering made to God.
    • Perfect. It cannot be lame or blind. His feet were damaged and His eyes were blindfolded.
      Defect. But if it has any defect, such as lameness or blindness, or any serious defect, you shall not sacrifice it to the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 15: 21)
    • Consecrated to God. He dedicated Himself to God.
    • Eat it in Jerusalem. If it is perfect it should be eaten in Jerusalem.
    • Pour out Blood Like Water. The blood should not be eaten, but poured out on the ground.
• Appearing at The Feasts (Chapter 16). Since the death of Jesus was to be done once for all times, then it means that His death fulfilled all the sacrifices for all the feasts, all the daily and all monthly offerings.
  Appear in Jerusalem With A Gift. Three times in a year all your males shall appear before the Lord your God in the place which He chooses, at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and at the Feast of Weeks and at the Feast of Booths, and they shall not appear before the Lord empty handed. (Deuteronomy 16: 16)
  In addition, He is supposed to appear in Jerusalem for all the feasts.
  • Passover (Feast of Unleavened Bread). He was in Jerusalem to be crucified as the Passover Lamb.
  • Feast of Weeks. He physically appeared in Jerusalem during the feast of weeks for at least forty days (Acts 1: 3). Then the Holy Spirit appeared on the final day.
  • Feast of Booths. At the Second and Third Coming, He will appear for the Feast of Booths.
  Jesus began the night by eating the Passover Seder and then He went to the Garden of Gethsemane.
  
  » Justice and Judgment Denied. During the feast, a great miscarriage of justice occurred.
  • Judges Appointed. They appointed judges and a special, illegal session of court to condemn Him.
    Perverted Judges. You shall appoint for yourself judges and officers in all your towns which the Lord your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment. (Deuteronomy 16: 18)
  • Justice Distorted. They took a bribe, showed favor to Barabbas and told lies.
    Blind Justice. You shall not distort justice, you shall not be partial, and you shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous. (Deuteronomy 16: 19)
  • Planting An Asherah. The cross was the tree that became an Asherah. They placed it in the north, where the altar of the Lord was set up to burn offerings. The two thieves on either side were Asherah that were planted beside His altar.
    The Asherah Beside The Altar. You shall not plant for yourself an Asherah of any kind of tree beside the altar of the Lord your God, which you shall make for yourself. (Deuteronomy 16: 21)
    An Asherah is a figure of a female deity. By submitting to death on the cross, Jesus accepted and took on the curse of women. So He became like a woman and was the God who became an Asherah.
  • A Sacred Pillar. The cross was the most sacred pillar. It was the pillar on which their God was hanging. Jesus hated the cross.
    Hating The Cross. You shall not set up for yourself a sacred pillar which the Lord your God hates. (Deuteronomy 16: 22)
• The Perversion Of Justice (Chapter 17).
  • At The Garden of Gethsemane. The mob met Him at the gate to arrest Him for blasphemy and insurrection. Then they took Him outside the Damascus gates to be crucified.
    Justice At The Gates. then you shall bring out that man or that woman who has done this evil deed to your gates, that is, the man or the woman, and you shall stone them to death. (Deuteronomy 17: 5)
  • Two False Witnesses. There were two witnesses but they were false witnesses.
    Liars. On the evidence of two witnesses or three witnesses, he who is to die shall be put to death; he shall not be put to death on the evidence of one witness. (Deuteronomy 17: 6)
  • Judas. Judas met Him first. Then the people turned against Him.
    The Executioners. The hand of the witnesses shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you shall purge the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy 17: 7)
  • Before the Sanhedrin. By law the special cases were tried by this esteemed body. But they were the ones who had orchestrated this travesty of justice.
    Serious Cases. If any case is too difficult for you to decide, between one kind of homicide or another, between one kind of lawsuit or another, and between one kind of assault or another, being cases of dispute in your courts, then you shall arise and go up to the place which the Lord your God chooses. So you shall come to the Levitical priest or the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall inquire of them and they will declare to you the verdict in the case. (Deuteronomy 17: 8-9)
  • Obeying The Authorities. Jesus was popular with the people until the night of the trial, then the entire nation mysteriously turned against Him as a whole. Although the trial was unjust, this law exonerated the people from all guilt because, as a group, they could not have known that the witnesses were false. All they could rely on were the rumors and the biased press releases of the Sanhedrin during a very emotionally charged period.
    The Verdict of The Priest and The Judge. You shall do according to the terms of the verdict which they declare to you from the place which the Lord chooses; and you shall be careful to observe according to all that they teach you. According to the terms of the law which they teach you, and according to the verdict which they tell you, you shall do; you shall not turn aside from the word which they declare to you, to the right or the left. The man who acts presumptuously by not listening to the priest who stands there to serve the Lord your God, nor to the judge, that man shall die; thus you shall purge the evil from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17: 10-12)
    The law required them to abide by the decision of the court appointed for them. The high priest, Caiaphas, declared the verdict and said that Jesus was guilty of blasphemy.
    The Verdict of The Priest. Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death. Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, you have heard the blasphemy." (Matthew 26: 59, 65)
  • King of the Jews. On the cross the Romans said He was the King. They chose their own countryman.
    King. When you enter the land which the Lord you God gives you, and you possess it and live in it, and you say, "I will set a king over me like all the nations who are around me," you shall surely set a king over you whom the Lord your God chooses, one from among your countrymen you shall set as king over yourselves; you may not put a foreigner over yourselves who is not your countryman. (Deuteronomy 17: 14-15)
  • Poor and Single. He died without money or family.
    No Life. He shall not multiply wives for himself, or else his heart will turn away, nor shall he greatly increase silver and gold for himself. (Deuteronomy 17: 17)
  • The Laws of the Kingdom. Jesus became the High Priest, then the King after His resurrection. The prophecies of John, show that Jesus has read the law and is executing its provisions.
    Copying the Law. Now it shall come about when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. (Deuteronomy 17: 18)
    Executing the Law. It shall be with Him and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes. (Deuteronomy 17: 19)
    
  As a righteous king, the Messiah will ensure that justice will never again be perverted in the name of the Lord.
• The Innocent Man (Chapter 18).
  • The Inheritance of Levi. They get to do what God typified in Abraham and Isaac.
    The Israelite. The Levitical priests, the whole tribe of Levi, shall have no portion of or inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the Lord's offering by fire and His portion. (Deuteronomy 18: 1)
    They eat the offering by fire when they had the unjust trial in the Sanhedrin. They will also inherit what He inherits. So, according to this law they are forgiven. Jesus had to die and He asked His friends to put Him to death.
  • The Intercessor Like Moses. The intercessor that they asked for at Horeb will come to them as a prophet like Moses, born as a Jew.
    The Israelite. The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him. This is according to all that you asked of the Lord your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly saying, "Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, let me not see His great fire anymore, or I will die." (Deuteronomy 18: 15-16)
  • The Prophet Like Moses. The Lord will raise us a prophet like Moses, who will speak to them.
    The Teacher. I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. (Deuteronomy 18: 18)
  • The Burnt Offering. Israel made their son pass through the fire by giving Him over to a rigged system of Jewish and Roman justice.
    Human Sacrifice. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire.
    Occult. Or one who uses divination, or one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer. (Deuteronomy 18: 10)
    The law also suggests that there was probably more than human involvement in this decision. We know that Satan entered Judas and made him go to the priests to sell Jesus (Luke 22: 3-4). The priests were probably guilty of this also.
• Restoration (Chapter 19). God made a provision to absolve those guilty of unintentional sin.
  • Three Cities of Refuge. Six cities of refuge are set up. Three on each side of the Jordan. We know that the New Jerusalem is one of the three cities set up for the church at the end of time. The other two must be the places where we will flee in the persecution.
  • Manslayer. God made provision for the nation that unintentionally killed Him.
  • Blood Avenger. As the High Priest and the blood avenger, He will not pursue them.
  • Murder. However, God did not absolve intentional murder. Judas sinned. Caiaphas sinned. The two false witnesses sinned. Everyone who was part of this secret conspiracy committed murder. We know that the entire Sanhedrin was not guilty because Nicodemus did not know.
  • Boundary Mark. Jesus repossessed the land that Adam lost by trickery. Satan removed the ancient boundary marks and captured Adam and Eve, holding them as slaves.
    The Ancient Will. You shall not move your neighbor's boundary mark, which the ancestors have set, in your inheritance which you will inherit in the land that the Lord your God gives you to possess. (Deuteronomy 19: 14)
  • Two Witnesses. Only two witnesses can accuse someone. So the high priest arranges for two false witnesses.
  • A Malicious Witness. The malicious witness must suffer the same punishment as the innocent man. Judas was hung in a garbage dump and disemboweled.
    Swift Justice. The judges shall investigate thoroughly and if the witness is a false witness and he has accused his brother falsely, then you shall do to him just as he intended to do to his brother. Thus you shall purge the evil from among you. (Deuteronomy 19: 18-19)
• Building An Army (Chapter 20). The priests came with an army to arrest Jesus at the gates of Gethsemane. 500 soldiers, the priests and an angry mob stormed the field. Jesus met them with His army.
  • The Fearful. When we go out to fight, certain people can be excused from service. Those with a new house, a new bride, a new vineyard or one who is afraid can go home. All the disciples ran away from the battle because they were afraid. So Jesus stood alone when his entire army deserted Him.
    The Cowardly Soldier. Then the officers shall speak further to the people and say, "Who is the man that is afraid and fainthearted? Let him depart and return to his house, so that he might not make his brothers' hearts melt like his." (Deuteronomy 20: 8)
  • Peace. God came to make peace with humans when He came to do battle with Satan, the hostage taker. When Peter used his sword, God made peace by reversing the damage and telling his disciples to shun violence.
    When you approach a city to fight against it, you shall offer it terms of peace. (Deuteronomy 20: 10)
    God Makes Peace. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, so establishing peace. (Ephesians 2: 13-15).
  • Slaves of God. Those who make peace with Christ become His slaves. Paul calls himself "a slave of Jesus Christ". Mary said that she was "the handmaiden of God".
    Terms of Peace. If it agrees to make peace with you and opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall become your forced labor and shall serve you. (Deuteronomy 20: 11)
    Israel would not submit to Christ. Instead, they captured Jesus and made Him a slave at forced labor. He carried the cross on His shoulders to the place of the crucifixion, fainting from exhaustion along the way.
  • War: The Siege. The people also besieged Jesus on the cross. Because they did not make peace with God they were subject to a siege and slavery. God used the Romans to accomplish this task. Titus besieged the city in 70 AD. He and Hadrian in 136 AD forced millions of Jews to be slaves of Rome.
    Besiege the Rebellious City. However, if it does not make peace with you, but makes war against you, then you shall besiege it. (Deuteronomy 20: 12)
    At the end of time, because the world will not make peace, God will prepare another siege. An army of Jews and Gentiles is now encircling the globe. Soon they will act to close the siege and trap the wicked inside.
  • War: The Sword. Peter used his sword to cut off the ear of the high priest's servant when they came to arrest Jesus.
    Sword. When the Lord your God gives it into your hand, you shall strike all the men in it with the edge of the sword. (Deuteronomy 20: 13)
    At the end of time, Jesus comes with an army and a sword in His mouth to destroy the wicked (Revelation 19).
  • Save the Trees. Fruit trees are a symbol of the righteous. When God besieges the wicked people He will save the righteous in the city who are bearing the fruit of the Spirit.
    Save the Fruit Trees. When you besiege a city a long time, to make war against it in order to capture it, you shall not destroy its trees by swinging an axe against them, and you shall not cut them down. For is the tree of the field a man, that it should be besieged by you? (Deuteronomy 20: 19)
    » Is The Tree A Man? Yes! At one time in history the tree was a Man, the Son of Man. Israel beseiged the tree shaped like a cross and cut Him down. He had borne no fruit because all the fruit failed.
    
    Cut Down the Other Trees. Only the trees which you know are not fruit trees you shall destroy and cut down, that you may construct siegeworks against the city that is making war with you until it falls. (Deuteronomy 20: 20)
    Earlier that week, Jesus said that Israel was a tree that did not yield fruit and they would be cut down. The Romans cut down the trees in Israel in 136 AD and exiled the people from Jerusalem.
    God has been besieging the wicked for a very long time. It has been 2000 years since God has been constructing siegeworks with the useless trees. It means that somehow God will use the wicked and their works to defeat themselves.
• The Marriage Of The Rebellious Son (Chapter 21).
  • The Guilty City. Christ was killed outside the city and the issue of guilt must be determined. Who is responsible for killing Christ? He was found lying outside the field near Jerusalem, so those inhabitants must remove all cloud of guilt.
    
    Last Day Jews. Determination of Guilt in a Death Outside the City. The Jews at the end of time can say that they are innocent of the death of Christ because they did not see it and they were not there.
    We Were Not There! We Did Not Crucify Jesus Christ! All the elders of the city which is nearest to the slain man shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley; and they shall answer and say, "Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see it. Forgive Your people Israel whom You have redeemed, O Lord, and do not place the guilt of innocent blood in the midst of your people Israel". And the bloodguiltiness shall be forgiven them. (Deuteronomy 21: 6-8)
  • Two Wives. The Jews and Gentiles are depicted as two wives of God. Israel was the unloved first wife because she was unfaithful. Jesus was the first child of this woman and so receives the double portion of the blessing.
    God could legitimately have two wives in only two ways, death or divorce. Since the rules of redemption say that one cannot remarry a divorced wife, then God can never divorce Israel. So Israel must have died in childbirth, like Rebecca. However, the Child can resurrect the dead, so we have a complication. Death annuls a marriage. So the newly born woman is no longer the wife, but she is technically available for remarriage. This is why the church is pictured as engaged to the Messiah.
  • Slave Wife. In the interim between the death of the first wife and her resurrection, God took the slave girl whom he captured in battle with Satan. We are now in the phase where we are waiting for a month with our nails trimmed and head shaved and new clothes. He can put us away if we do not please Him. But He will never give us back to Satan.
  • Stubborn Son. Jesus was falsely accused of being a glutton and a drunk because He made friends with these people. They killed Him.
  • Hung on A Tree. Jesus was put to death and hung on a tree, but His body was removed before sunset.
  How can this complicated soap opera be solved? The rebellious son has been resurrected. The first wife has been resurrected and the slave girl is in His house. Technically all marriages have been dissolved. The best that the son can do is to become engaged.
  Last Day Jews. They are the rejected wife of youth who is barren. She will be taken by her husband in her old age and she will become fruitful.
• Jews And Gentiles (Chapter 22). After the crucifixion, the church was strategically split into two and separated for a period.
  » Finding the Lost Sheep. The next instructions have a dual application and the first is in order of the events that occured with Jesus.
  • Straying Animal. In the Garden, the angel helped Jesus to stay on His path.
  • Lost Objects (Donkey). Wandering in confusion, He was passed back and forth from one trial to another as each official sought to shift the blame and responsibility for murdering and innocent man.
  • Lost Objects (Clothes). His clothes were taken away and the outer garment ripped in four and the inner garment was gambled away.
  • Fallen Ox or Donkey. Oxen and donkeys carry heavy burdens. When Jesus fell under the heavy burden of the cross on His shoulders, Simon of Cyrene helped Him to carry it.
  • Cross Dressing. They took His clothes and dressed Him in Roman clothes, possibly violating this law.
    Gender Confusion A woman shall not wear man's clothing, nor shall a man put on woman's clothing, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. (Deuteronomy 22: 5)
    
    » The Naked Woman and The Man Dressed in White. However, when they took His clothes and made Him naked, He was wearing the nakedness of humanity which we inherited from Adam and Eve. We exchanged His righteousness for our nakedness, which is the goal of the Plan of Salvation. However, we cannot take His clothes by force and make Him naked, that is the abomination. He must freely give us His righteousness by making clothes for us that are just like His clothes.
  • Bird Nest. Jesus was the baby in the bird's nest on a tree shaped like a cross. When He fell on the ground while carrying the cross, He was the bird's nest on the ground that had fallen out of the tree. Mary is the mother sitting beside the nest at the time she came to the cross with John. She was left alone and Jesus was taken, but He made provision for her care.
    The Vulnerable Bird's Nest If you happen on a bird's nest along the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the mother sitting on the young or on the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the young. (Deuteronomy 22: 6)
  
  Now that the Jews and Gentiles are brothers in the new Israel, certain obligations are required.
  • Straying Animal. The straying Gentiles must be brought back into the fold.
  • Lost Objects. When the Jews finally finally realize that they have lost their Messian and they realize that they must search for Him, we must show them where He is. Until then, we can keep Him in our house.
    Looking For The Lost Valuable If your countryman is not near you, or if you do not know him, then you shall bring it home to your house, and it shall remain with you until your countryman looks for it; then you shall restore it to him. (Deuteronomy 22: 2)
    After they have been scattered among the nations, He will allow them to find Him when they search for Him with all their heart.
    A Lost Nation The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the Lord your God drives you.
    Searching For A Lost Son. But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul. (Deuteronomy 4: 27, 29)
  • Fallen Ox or Donkey. We must assist the Jew or Gentile who falls or bears a burden that is too heavy.
  • Cross Dressing. Christ is the Male and the church (new Israel) is the female. We cannot take up each other's roles. The church cannot act like the male and be the intercessor to man. We are the nurturing church that is wooing the world back to God. Christ can no longer submit because we are at war. He must assume the role of the protective, dominant male after the crucifixion.
  • Bird Nest. The Jews are the mother bird and the Gentiles are the chicks. Christ took the chicks and appeared to leave the mother alone. As the younger members of the faith, the Gentiles need to be protected and nurtured until they are fully grown.
  • New House. The Gentiles are the new house whose inhabitants must be protected like a young child has barriers to protect it.
  
  » Separating the Church (A Second Division of Israel). Two polar opposites need to be carefully united so that they can form something wonderful and new. The wisdom behind this separation is recorded in several parables and prophecies and these laws. Power struggles, old rivalries and resentments, old prejudices and habits make these two societies incompatible in the beginning. It took 2000 years to get the Jews to this cultured point. The wild Christians need to be tamed and need to abandon their old ways.
  • Two Seeds (Field). You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed ... (Deuteronomy 22: 9)
    Differing growth rates, leaf sizes and other characteristics will interfere with growth and harvest.
  • Ox and Donkey (Workers). You shall not plough with an ox and a donkey together. (Deuteronomy 22:10)
    The clean ox is the Jews and the unclean donkey is the Gentiles. Both are burden bearers with different temperaments. Ploughing the field is evangelism. The animals will want to go in different directions and different speeds. The donkey can carry more weight, but the ox can go faster and plough deeper.
  • Mixed Clothing. You shall not wear a material mixed of wool and linen together. (Deuteronomy 22: 11)
    The Jews are the linen and the Gentiles are the wool. Both fabrics have opposite charges and different shrink rates and are best used in different seasons. The opposite charges means that they will be attracted to each other.
  • 4 Tassels on Our Garments. We must go out to the ends of the world to build knowledge of God.
  When the field and the workers and the garment are prepared, they will be a formidable force of evangelism.
  
  » Divorcing Israel. Jesus cannot divorce Israel.
  • Defaming A Virgin. His charges against Israel at the crucifixion were found to be defamation. Clothes are a symbol of our righteousness. His blood-stained clothes are our righteousness. When the garments were examined, Israel was still found to be a virgin beause there was blood on the garment.
  • Raping A Virgin. The Gentiles are the engaged virgin taken in the field and raped by Satan. Because she cried out, Satan will be killed and she will be saved.
• The Eligibility Of Jesus (Chapter 23). This chapter addresses the issues surrounding the eligibility of Jesus.
  » The Lineage of Jesus. Was Jesus of the correct birth and family line?
  • Eunuch. A eunuch is automatically ineligible because he cannot complete the blessings of having many children. On two levels Jesus could be mistaken for a eunuch. A eunuch is called "dry tree" because he has no children. Jesus had no children. Circumcision is a mild form of castration. Crucifixion is a symbol of both. Jesus was "cut off" on the cross so that He had nothing.
    Eunuch. No one who is emasculated or has his male organ cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 23: 1)
    Since He is the Seed that gives life even to the dead He is not a eunuch.
  • Illegitimate Child. Many facts make this seem like an illegitimate birth. His mother was single and she was labeled as a prostitute because of the pregnancy. Even if God is the Father, this could be a case of incest because He uncovered the nakedness of His daughter.
    Bastard. No one of illegitimate birth shall enter the assembly of the Lord, none of his descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall ever enter the assembly of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 23: 2)
    
    » Ten Generations. Jesus was descended from Solomon who was the son of David and a woman with whom he had an affair. Jesus was called the "Son of David" and He was at least 28 generations from David (Matthew 1: 17). So He was the Son of David who was eligible to enter heaven.
    
    » Ten Generations. If Jesus was even symbolically a bastard, then how did He enter heaven after His resurrection? The answer is that He was born again in the resurrection. He was born as a Son of God.
    Even though He was too perfect to participate in some rituals, Jesus preferred to submit to all laws and fulfill all righteousness. So Jesus would wait at least ten generations to take His children. If we are born from Christ, then we cannot enter heaven until after the tenth generation. This explains why we have been waiting for 2000 years. At the exodus, we learned that Israel came out in the third and fourth generation after being in Egypt for 430 years. So in that era a generation lasted about 100-140 years. So, using those metrics, in ten generations after Christ the new world was opening up and Martin Luther was learning about justification by faith. However, by the metrics of heaven, one is still a child at 100, so perhaps adulthood occurs after age 200. Whatever it is, by the Second Coming we will have officially cleared ten generations.
  • Foreigner. Since He spent His childhood in Egypt He could be labeled as an Egyptian. Since Israel was being ruled by Edomites, He could be called an Edomite.
    Egyptian and Edomite. You shall not detest and Edomite, for he is your brother; you shall not detest an Egyptian, because you were an alien in his land. The sons of the third generation who are born to them may enter the assembly of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 23: 7-8)
    These implications are important. If He had children they would be excluded from the house of Israel for three generations! So He never married or had children.
    » Moabite. A Moabite was in His line.
    Moabite Ancestry. No Ammonite or Moabite shall enter the assembly of the Lord; none of their descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall ever enter the assembly of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 23: 3)
    The Ancestors of Jesus. Salmon was the father of of Boaz by Rahab, Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of David the king ... So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations. (Matthew 1: 5,6, 17)
    Jesus was 30 generations from His Moabite ancestor, Ruth. So He is now eligible to enter the camp.
    Traitor. because they did not meet you with food and water on the way when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Baalam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia to curse you. (Deuteronomy 23: 4)
    • Traitor. Judas was like Baalam, the false prophet and traitor who took bribes.
    • Help. Simon of Cyrene met Him along the way and relieved His burden. It was His own people who hired bribes and gave Him vinegar instead of water. This act by Simon signified that peace was established between the Jews and the Gentiles.
    • Out of Egypt. Jesus was literally on His final exodus.
  
  Even if He were ineligible, God could legitimize Him.
  Foreigner. Let not the foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord say, "The Lord will surely separate me from his people."
  Eunuch. Nor let the eunuch say "Behold I am a dry tree." For thus says the Lord, to the eunuch who keep My sabbaths and choose what pleases Me, and holds fast my covenant,
  Bastard. "To them I will give in My house and within My walls a memorial, and a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name which will not be cut off". (Isaiah 56: 3-5)
  
  » Unclean. Did His temporary circumstance and condition make Him ineligible? If He was unclean in any way He could not participate in the ceremony as either a priest or an offering.
  • Violence. When the two armies met in Gethsemane and Peter used his sword in violence Jesus healed the wound and rebuked Peter. His kingdom will not be built on violence.
    War Crimes. When you go out as an army against your enemies, you shall keep yourself from every evil thing. (Deuteronomy 23: 9)
  • Excrement. The dung of the sin offering was burned outside the camp in the north (Exodus 29: 12-14). So the site of the crucifixion during the darkness was seen as a dung heap.
    Dig a Hole. You should also have a place outside the camp and go out there and you shall have a spade among your tools, and it shall be when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it and shall turn to cover up your excrement. (Deuteronomy 23: 12-13)
    They must have dug a hole to plant the cross. So the cross was the partially buried excrement.
    God is Watching. Since the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to defeat your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy; and he must not see anything indecent among you or He will turn away from you. (Deuteronomy 23: 14)
    God turned away from Jesus Christ on the cross. He saw something indecent.
    The world was throwing away an innocent Man, made in the image of God, like excrement.
  
  » The Disciples Sin. Did the actions of others disqualify Him?
  • A Runaway Slave. Judas captured Him and gave Him to the slave catchers.
    You shall not hand over to his master a slave who has escaped from his master to you. (Deuteronomy 23: 15)
  • Hire of A Harlot. Judas sold Him for 30 pieces of silver.
    You shall not bring the hire of a harlot or the wages of a dog into the house of the Lord your God for any votive offering for both of these are an abomination to the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 23: 18)
  • Keep Vows. Peter made a vow of loyalty and broke it.
    However, if you refrain from vowing it shall not be sin in you. you shall be careful to perform what goes out from you lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God, what you have promised. (Deuteronomy 23: 22-23)
  • Standing Grain (No Broken Bones). Imagine the cross as a sheaf of standing grain. Normally the soldiers would break the lower legs so that they could not stand up so as to hasten the crucifixion. This would be the equivalent of cutting down the standing grain.
    When you enter your neighbors standing grain, then you may pluck the heads with your hand, but you shall not wield a sickle to your neighbor's standing grain. (Deuteronomy 23: 25)
    Jesus on the cross is the standing grain. He was Israel's harvest so the Gentiles could not reap Him. The soldiers did not use a weapon to break His legs. However, the Edomites (House of Herod) may have symbolically plucked His head when they decapitated John the baptist. The death of John was a sign.
    
    » Pluck The Heads. This law and the decapitation of the bird offering seems to point to a decapitation of Jesus. Golgotha, "the place of the skull" seems to also point to the crucifixion site as a place of decapitation. John the Baptist was decapitated but his death could never be symbolized in a legitimate offering. Since Jesus' bones were never to be broken how was He decapitated?
    Decapitation can be done without breaking the bones. The head merely needs to be separated at the first or second cervical vertebra. I believe that the decapitation occurred when His divinity and humanity were separated and He was left alone without the ever present knowledge of God.
    Like a headless bird, He was in His final stages of death where the bird can actually move for a while before they die.
• The Millennium: Justice And Mercy For Israel (Chapter 24).
  • Divorce. It is an abomination to remarry your divorced wife who had remarried. So, although Israel was unfaithful, God cannot divorce her because she will end up in the arms of Satan. Even if Satan dies, God can never remarry Israel again. We know from the prophecies that Israel is the bride in the New Jerusalem, so she was never divorced.
  • New Wife and Honeymoon Period. After Israel marries Jesus at the Second Coming, we will rest for one thousand years before we go to battle with Satan.
  • Kidnapping. Satan will be purged for kidnapping us into slavery.
  • Leprosy. The planet earth had an infection of leprosy and we have obeyed all the quarantine laws.
    » Miriam. She became a leper for criticizing the Gentile bride of Moses and was outcast for seven days while the people waited. The Jews may have been put out of the camp until they acknowledge the role of the Gentiles.
  • The Poor Man. Jesus was the poor man who was oppressed, robbed and whose clothes were taken and not returned by sunset when He was dead.
  • Substitutionary Death. This law appears to contradict everything we have believed about Jesus dying on the cross for our sins.
    Personal Responsibility. Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin. (Deuteronomy 24: 16)
    This can best be understood by knowing what happened on Passover. It is not the death of the innocent substitute that wipes away our sin, it is the blood that provides atonement. Jesus Christ atoned for our sins with the perfect offering of blood poured out on the ground at Gethsemane.
    The cross did pay for our sins. It is Satan who wants death and a ransom, not God. His gruesome death on the cross was part of the ransom paid to Satan when we were kidnapped into slavery or sold ourselves into slavery when we sinned. The torturous death did not meet any requirements for the sacrifice. God prefers to deal with sin by giving us a gift of life - His blood and His Holy Spirit to teach us righteousness and true repentance.
    In the end, Satan and the wicked will die in their sins because they spurned the gift of God. When God separates from them they will shrivel and die like a plant without water in the glare of the hot sun.
  • Justice and Provisions for the Alien. God has included the Gentiles in the Plan of Salvation.
    » Reaping the Corners. The Jews must go to the four corners of the earth to find the alien and give them what was preserved for them.
• Injustice (Chapter 25).
  • Beating the Wicked Man (40 Lashes). They went to court and condemned the righteous man to be beaten and killed.
  • The Ox on the Threshing Floor. They muzzled the ox from heaven as he was threshing the grain.
  • The Dead Brother. When Jesus died, His 'brother', the Holy Spirit became the constant companion of His wife and raised up children for Him.
    Since Jesus eventually built up the house if the Gentiles it would seem that they had the right to spit on Him. However, the disciples spent another 3.5 years trying to build up the house under the Jews and they rejected them. He even appeared to work with them for another 40 years before He destroyed the temple and then another 60 years before He destroyed Jerusalem.
    Spit. then his brother's wife shall come to him in the sight of the elders, and pull his sandal off his foot and spit in his face; and she shall declare, 'Thus it is done to the man who does not build up his brother's house.' (Deuteronomy 25: 9)
    So they not only took off His shoes, they took off His clothes and spit on Him in the sight of the Sanhedrin and the priests.
    Spit. Some began to spit at Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists, and to say to Him, " Prophesy!" And the officers received Him with slaps in the face. (Mark 14: 65)
  • Two Fighting Men. Jesus and Satan were fighting when the woman (the church) came and seized His genitals and circumcised Him. Her hands were cut off and the church was split in two, the Jews on the right hand and the Gentiles on the left. Now, Jesus is the right hand of the church which has lost a hand.
  • Different Weights and Measurements. There will be one system of justice and salvation for Jews and Gentiles.
  • Revenge on Amalek (Perpetual Enemies). The wicked are our permanent enemies. We will take revenge before crossing over. At the end of time, revenge may take the form of successful evangelism, the plagues and the Second Coming. Satan attacked Jesus at the gates of Gethsemane when He was weary. Revenge has been promised on him.
    Attacking the Weary. Remember what Amalek did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt, how he met you along the way and attacked among you all the stragglers at your rear when you were faint and weary; and he did not fear God.
    Destroy! Therefore it shall come about when the Lord your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies, in the land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you must not forget. (Deuteronomy 25: 18-19)
    We will rest at the Second Coming after defeating the enemy. Then we shall destroy Satan at the third Coming and possess the Promised Land.
• First Fruits (Chapter 26). After the resurrection, Jesus presented the offering to God. This chapter outlines some of what must have occurred in heaven as He offered up the first fruits.
  • Resurrection. He and those who were resurrected with Him became the first fruits from the ground.
    Now behold, I have brought the fruit of the produce of the ground which You, O Lord have given me. And I shall set it down before the Lord your God, and worship before the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 26: 10)
  • It is Finished! Jesus did not complete the Passover seder, because He was going to Gethsemane and Calvary for a period of mourning where He would be made unclean. He will finish the Seder at the Second Coming.
    Eating the Seder. I have not eaten it while mourning, nor have I removed any of it while I was unclean, nor offered any of it to the dead. I have listened to the voice of the Lord my God; I have done all that You have commanded of me. (Deuteronomy 26: 14)
    The dead were resurrected only after His death.
  • The People of God. Jesus vindicated us and made us a people for God who will keep the commandments and will have a great destiny in the last days.
    The New Israel. The Lord has today declared you to be His people, a treasured possession, as He promised you, and that you should keep all His commandments.
    Last Day Jews. And that He will set you high above all nations which He has made, for praise, fame, and honor, and that you shall be a consecrated people to the Lord your God as He has spoken. (Deuteronomy 26: 18-19)

The Deliverer Of Israel Suffers The Curses
The next set of instructions are to the people.

• The Terms Of The Curses (Chapter 27-28). Since we were disobedient, the terms of the curses fall on Jesus. We have devoted two lessons which explain how Jesus suffered the curses.
  • The Covenant Breaker. He was the innocent man who removed our curses.
  • The Final Curse. He was the sanctuary which was destroyed.
  The tribes stood facing each other on two mountains in a haphazard selection to say the blessings and the curses.
  Blessings: Southern Mountain. "When you cross the Jordan, these shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin. (Deuteronomy 27: 12)
  Curses: Northern Mountain. "For the curse, these shall stand on Mount Ebal: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. (Deuteronomy 27: 13)
  • Blessings. The blessings were said on the earth when Jesus atoned for our sins.
    • Simeon (Hated). The hated Gentiles were appointed to lead, just as the hated earth was appointed to be the new nation of priests.
    • Levi (Attached). The nation of priests are now attached to God.
    • Judah (Praise the Lord). Like the cherubim around the throne we praise the Lord.
    • Issachar (Wages). The wages of sin have been paid by the one who carried the burden on His back like a donkey to deliver the ransom payment to Satan.
    • Joseph (Reproach Removed). Our burden of sin and reproach were removed that day.
    • Benjamin (Son of the Right Hand). Like Jesus we became the sons on the right hand.
  • Curses. The curses will be said on the earth at the seven last plagues before Jesus returns.
    • Reuben (Afflicted). The righteous are persecuted so the wicked will also be afflicted.
    • Gad (Raider). Jesus comes as a raider on a white horse to execute vengeance.
    • Asher (Happy). The saints are happy even though they have been sentenced to death.
    • Zebulun (Good Gift). We receive the gift of eternal life and it is in this phase that the gifts of the Holy Spirit is poured out in the greatest measure.
    • Dan (Judged a Serpent). Judgment is delivered. The wicked are the children of Satan.
    • Naphtali (Wrestled and Prevailed). We have victory in the resurrection.
      » Benoi (Son of Sorrow). The children of sorrow will be rescued by the Son of the Right Hand.
• The Scope Of The Covenant (Chapter 29).
  Deaf and Blind. Yet to this day the Lord has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear. (Deuteronomy 29: 4)
  The Jews were still blinded while Jesus was preaching and they will remain blind for 2000 years until the generation that will cross over into the Promised Land.
  The Assembly of Jews and Gentiles. You stand today, all of you, before the Lord your God; your chiefs, your tribes, your elders and your officers, even all the men of Israel. Your little ones, your wives, and the alien who is within your camps, from the one who chops your wood to the one who draws your water. (Deuteronomy 29: 10-11)
  The Gentiles chopped the wood to make the cross and the Gentiles were given the Holy Spirit, their water.
  The New Covenant (Eternal Covenant). Now not with you alone am I making this covenant and oath, but with those who stand here with us today in the presence of the Lord our God and with those who are not here with us today. (Deuteronomy 29: 14-15)
  The covenant is with everyone from all time.
• Israel Will Return (Chapter 30).
  Last Day Jews. So it shall be when all these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you call them to mind in all nations where the Lord your God has banished you, and you return to the Lord your God and obey Him with all your heart and soul according to all that I command you today, you and your sons, then the Lord will restore you from captivity, and have compassion on you, and will gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you. If your outcasts are at the ends of the earth, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you back. (Deuteronomy 30: 1-4)
  So, after the crucifixion, one more application of the blessings and the curses will fall on the Jews before they are gathered a final time.

The Deliverer Of Israel Leads The Exiles Back To Mount Zion (Tabernacles)

Physical Israel		First Generation	2000 Years of Rivalry	Final Generation	Spiritual Israel

Jesus was the one faithful Jew from the first generation who will cross over alive with the final generation.

• Israel Falls Away (Chapter 31). Israel will rebel but they will return in the last days and this song will guide them.
  A Testimony in Song. Then it shall come about, when many evils and troubles have come upon them, that this song will testify before them as a witness (for it shall not be forgotten from the lips of their descendants); for I know their intent which they are developing today, before I brought them into the land which I swore."
  For I know that after my death you will act corruptly and turn from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days, for you will do that which is evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him to anger with the work of your hands." (Deuteronomy 31: 21, 29)
  This is why the new testament prophecies talk of us singing the Song of Moses and the Lamb (Revelation 15: 3).
• The Song Of Moses (Chapter 32). Moses writes a song for the final generation that applies to us. In summary the song says that God sends a faithful Rock which they will scorn. Therefore God will spurn them and make them jealous with the Gentiles. But eventually, God will have compassion and He will let them know that He has not rejected them forever and He has not divorced them and He will take revenge on all the nations that hurt them. This will happen at a time when they are almost wiped out.
  The prophecy promises the restoration of both the people and the land.
  Atonement and Restoration. Rejoice O nations, with His people. For He will avenge the blood of His servants, and will render vengeance on His adversaries, and will atone for His land and His people. (Deuteronomy 32: 43)
• Moses Blesses The Twelve Tribes (Chapter 33). The second generation receives the blessings. Moses blesses the final generation and both the song and the blessings prophesy about their future.
  The lesson on the camping positions of the twleve tribes explains these meanings in detail, we only summarize here.
  
  » Jesus (The Crucifixion). During His final week, Jesus suffered the terms of the blessings of Moses and Jacob.
  • Reuben ("May Reuben Live"). The disgraced firstborn Son of God will survive His ordeal by fire.
  • Judah ("Bring Judah to His People"). He came to His people on a donkey.
  • Levi ("Obeys the Covenant"). He obeyed all laws and submitted to the will of God.
  • Benjamin ("Beloved of the Lord"). God will love Him.
  • Joseph ("The Choice Blessings of the Earth"). He had the gifts of God.
  • Zebulun. Goes forth in joy to do the will of God.
  • Issachar. He was homeless, living in temporary places.
  • Gad. He brought the salvation and the justice of the Lord.
  • Dan. Satan attacked him and besieged him with a horde of wild animals.
  • Naphtali ("Full of Favor"). He was resurrected with gifts.
  • Asher ("Most Blessed"). He was preserved in death.
  • Simeon. The disciples, the founders of the Gentiles, deserted Him.
  
  » Physical Israel (After the Crucifixion).
  • Reuben ("May Reuben Live"). Israel will live. They survived for 2000 years.
  • Judah ("Bring Judah to His People"). They will accept their Messiah from the tribe of Judah.
  • Levi ("Obeys the Covenant"). They will obey the covenant and reject the animosity towards the Lord that their ancestors taught them.
  • Benjamin ("Beloved of the Lord"). They will become the sons of the right hand.
  • Joseph ("The Choice Blessings of the Earth"). They will have the blessings in all the places where they are scattered.
  • Zebulun ("Joy"). They will go out in joy as evangelists.
  • Issachar. They will live in temporary places as a nation until they return to Israel.
  • Gad. They have preserved the ordinances and justice of God and out of them a leader shall arise in the last days.
  • Dan. The Antichrist will attack them from Bashan (now the West bank and Jordan).
  • Naphtali ("Full of Favor"). Takes possession of the sea and the south.
  • Asher ("Most Blessed"). Even though they are as the dead, they are blessed.
  • Simeon. Simeon's fate is not presented as a blessing or a curse. Instead it is a secret or a mystery.
    This is the Christian church who took their blessing so this is a curse for Israel but a blessing for the Gentiles. So technically it was not a malicious curse or punishment to satisfy the requests of Satan, so it was not recorded as either a blessing or a curse.
  
  » Spiritual Israel (Before the Second Coming).
  • Reuben ("May Reuben Live"). As the disgraced firstborn who lost his inheritance, Reuben will live.
  • Judah ("Bring Judah to His People"). Jesus is the offspring of Judah who will return to His people and rescue them from their adversaries.
  • Levi ("Obeys the Covenant"). He forsook mother and father to obey the covenant. He has the Thummim and Urim and God proves them at Massah and Meribah. In these tests they wanted water. At Massah Moses struck the rock and water poured out. At Meribah Moses struck the Rock instead of speaking to it.
    Last Day Jews. The last day Jews will forsake the 2000 year rebellion of their parents and return to the Lord, who will again try them. He will give them the Holy Spirit, the water, when they speak to Him.
  • Benjamin ("Beloved of the Lord "). The secure, young church is a burden that the Lord will gladly bear on His shoulders.
  • Joseph ("The Choice Blessings of the Earth"). Evangelism is very successful with the help of the Jews.
  • Zebulun ("Joy"). We go forth in joy to win souls and to continue the exodus.
  • Issachar ("Living in Tents"). We are now in the final feast of tabernacles, living in temporary shelters.
  • Gad ("Lion"). The lion who tears the arm and head must be the one who attacks the Mark of the Beast on the arm and forehead. He executed the justice of the Lord which might be revenge for 6000 years of human slavery.
  • Dan ("Lion Cub from Bashan"). Since Dan is a negative symbol in all other blessings I will assume that this is the same. Bashan is the former territory of the Amalekites whom we are commanded to hate forever. If our Lord is the Lion, then the Antichrist is the lion cub. We must realize how much more powerful we are in comparison to him.
  • Naphtali ("Full of Favor"). He takes possession of the sea and the south. The south is a symbol of where the people of God flee from the persecuting power in the north. The sea is a symbol of the wicked. This is a promise that we can take possession of all these groups of people for God.
  • Asher ("Most Blessed"). Those who were once dead in sin and those who are dead in reality are blessed because Christ will raise them all.
  • Simeon. He did not receive a blessing. This is the Christian church of Laodicea who are not blessed.
  Verses 26 to 29 describes the Second Coming of Jesus in the clouds.
• The Deliverer Dies on A Mountain (Chapter 34). Moses dies before entering the Promised Land, because the people caused him to sin. However, he sees the Promised Land from the top of a mountain.
  Jesus dies before entering the Promised Land (Heaven) because He had taken our sins on Himself. While He was on the cross on the top of Mount Calvary, He sees the victory by faith.
  
  Jewish Objections To Jesus (Not A Conqueror). Although over 90% of the prophecies are about the suffering Messiah, the Jews object to Jesus, the suffering Messiah. Yet to understand this they need to look at the roles of Moses and Joshua. It took their combined effort to lead Israel into the Promised Land and yet the dead Moses was the greater of the two leaders. Israel must see their Messiah in this complicated dual role. He had to die before He could become the conqueror they are seeking.
  A Period Of Mourning For The Suffering Messiah. So the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days; then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end. (Deuteronomy 34: 8)
  
  Israel wept for Moses for a period of time, before the conqueror Joshua led them. At the end of time, Israel will weep for the Messiah they pierced when they finally recognize Him. This 2000 years is the period of weeping.
  Israel Finally Mourns For Their Pierced Son. I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierces; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. (Zechariah 12: 10)
  On the first Passover, Egypt wept bitterly over their children because every firsborn had been killed. However, Israel's firstborn were safe because of the blood of the Passover lamb smeared on the doorposts and lintels of their homes. On the last Passover, Israel's firstborn was spared again because of one Son who stood in their place. We must weep bitterly for the death of this firstborn because He was left in the land of sin without a covering to die in our place as our covering.
  
  The conqueror will follow the suffering one.
  The Conquering Messiah. Now Joshua the son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; and the sons of Israel listened to him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses. (Deuteronomy 34: 9)
  The Messiah of Signs and Wonders. Since that time no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. for all the signs and wonders which the Lord sent him to perform in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh, all his servants and all his land, and for all the mighty power and for all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel. (Deuteronomy 34: 10-12)
  • Face to Face. Moses saw the face of God but Jesus had the face of God because He was God.
  • Against The Land of Slavery in Egypt. We were delivered from the land of slavery to sin.
  • Mighty Power. Jesus performed many mighty miracles, controlling nature and subjecting the evil demons.
  • Great Terror. He died with a display of great terror as all Israel were assembled for the Passover feast.

Jewish Objections To Jesus (He Did Not Keep Jewish Laws). As this series of lessons on the Torah showed, He kept all the laws because the laws showed Him what to do. When we come to the prophecies in the New Testament, we will show the conquering Messiah keeping all the Jewish laws in the Torah, not just the Ten Commandments.
In a future lesson, we will show what He really did when He appeared to change the laws on revenge and hatred as He tried to establish a righteous court system by transferring all judgment and punishment to Himself and took it out of the hands of humans who were historically unfair and unjust.

613 Mitzvot: Repetition and Enlargement
Jews teach that there are 613 mitzvot (commandments) in the Torah, including the ten commandments. These are not to be associated with the commandments they added by tradition, that Jesus rejected. Rathers, these are detailed commandments given by God that are based on the blessings and the curses. They elaborate on the Ten Commandments and the curses by repeating and enlarging on them.

• Love. The aim of all law is to promote love. When perfect love exists, there is no fear because we do not relate to one another based on reward or punishment.
  A Reasonable Love. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. (1 John 4: 18-19)
• The Two Great Commandments. The expression of love may differ based on the object loved, God or man.
• The Ten Commandments. The laws primarily deal with general duties to God and man. These laws are the covenant (Deuteronomy 4: 13). All renewals of the covenant are meant to help us keep the law better. There can never be a covenant that says, "it is impossible for man to keep the law therefore we will do away with the law".
• 613+ Mitzvot. However, we find that these laws also extend to the rights of animals, plants and the land. Since they include laws from Genesis, not only Sinai, I have also included laws on food from Genesis that are not in this official list. While the Ten Commandments mainly tell you the wrong to avoid, it is these laws that tell you some of the right things to do. These laws are based on the terms of the covenant made with Adam and Eve.
  • Blessings. They describe the perfect life, character and conduct that will exist forever. They are so internalized that one would no longer consider them to be "laws".
  • Curses: Punishment. These are the rewards and character of the wicked that God will never approve.
  • Curses: Transitional (Shadows). These are the laws address the transitional conditions under which we exist because of sin. Some help us to deal with the consequences of sin and imperfection by mitigating the damage, strengthening us or disposing of the evidence of sin. They all help us to achieve perfection by being our school teachers.
  Laws Nailed To The Cross Having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which were hostile to us; and he has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day things which were a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. (Colossians 2: 14, 16 - 17)
  Jesus removed the hostile laws. How can a law that helps us be hostile?
  • Curses: Transitional (Shadows). Many of these laws were not "against" us or not in our best interests.
    » The Signs (Tefillin, Mezuzah, Tzitzit). These objects could exist but they are not necessary because we do not need constant reminders to love God or love the law.
    Taught By The Spirit. As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him. (1 John 2: 27)
    » The Shadows Of Christ. Although many of these laws point to the work of Christ or were obeyed by Christ, only a few cease to function because He took over those functions.
  • Curses (Wrath of God). These were paid by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the punishment removed.
  • Traditions Of Men. The Jews had other oppressive laws they made up to help keep these laws. These were not recognized by Jesus and are not even considered in the accomplishments of the crucifixion.
